The Path of Acceptance: A Poem Inspired by My Essay, "The Art of Accepting the Unacceptable"
Share
In the depths of our minds, a battle is waged
Between the truths we hold and the doubts we've engaged
A struggle to see, to accept and to know
That our perspectives are limited, our biases in tow
We resist the unknown, the uncomfortable, and the new
Afraid to confront the flaws that we hold true
But in acceptance lies growth, a chance to evolve
To see ourselves and others with a more compassionate resolve
We must confront our demons, our memories, and our past
And accept the experiences that have shaped us at last
For in acceptance lies freedom, a release from the chains
That binds us to our fears, our doubts, and our pains
It's a journey, not a destination, this path we must take
To cultivate compassion, empathy, and a heart that can break
For ourselves and for others, for the struggles we face
And the imperfections that make us human, in this fragile place
So let us embrace our flaws, our weaknesses, and our fears
And accept the complexities of those who dry our tears
For in acceptance lies strength, a chance to begin anew
To transform ourselves, our relationships, and our world, anew
With each step forward, we shed the weight of our pride
And open ourselves to new possibilities, where love can reside
A place where we can be vulnerable, without fear of reprisal
And find solace in the acceptance of our shared humanity's trial
But it's not always easy, this path we've chosen to roam
There will be times when we stumble, and our hearts will feel like stone
Yet, it's in those moments, we must remember to breathe
And find the courage to continue, to let our hearts be freed
For acceptance is a practice, a muscle we must exercise
A choice we must make daily, to open our hearts and minds to the skies
To let go of our need for control, our need to be right
And embrace the uncertainty, the beauty of the night
In acceptance, we find peace, a sense of calm and rest
A feeling that we're home, where our true selves can nest
A place where we can be ourselves, without apology or shame
And find the freedom to live, to love, and to be reclaimed
And so let us walk this path, with hearts that are open wide
Embracing acceptance, compassion, and love, side by side
For- In doing so, we'll find, a world that's more just and kind
Where acceptance is the bridge that connects us, heart and mind.
