Bright Eyes helped to open my mind in high school. I was straight edge, I didn't drink or do drugs really, smoking the occasional weed but nothing serious. I’d listen to Oberst's lyrics and wonder how someone writes something like that. Why does his mind work differently? And of course, it is probably drugs, nevertheless, I started exploring these questions that allowed me to expand the way that I was thinking. Bright Eyes was one of the few things that opened me up to such things.
