In the labyrinthine streets of Santa Fe, New Mexico, where adobe structures whisper tales of tradition and artistic innovation, lies a culinary haven that’s not a secret to anyone in and around this unique city: La Choza Restaurant. A little off the beaten path, away from the tourist “hubbub,” this Mexican food restaurant offers a feast for your senses that transcends mere sustenance. La Choza Restaurant is the best Mexican and New Mexican food I have ever had.
On the corner of a residential street behind Santa Fe’s Railyard, and hugging the tracks, as you step through the vibrant doors of La Choza, you’re transported into a world where time slows and flavors reign supreme. The ambiance is a harmonious blend of rustic charm and understated elegance, inviting you to unwind and savor every moment. But, do not forget to make your reservation, because you will find yourself waiting for up to three hours or more for a table. Although La Choza is worth a three-hour wait, it’s avoidable so make your reservation.
The menu at La Choza is a reminder of the rich tapestry of flavors that define the southwest culinary landscape. Each dish is a masterpiece, crafted with care using locally sourced ingredients that showcase the region’s vibrant bounty. From the smoky heat of green chiles to the earthy sweetness of blue corn, every bite tells a story of tradition and heritage. La Choza’s enchiladas are beautiful, stuffed with your choice of filling, and smothered in red or green chile sauce. After your first bite, you will find yourself planning your next visit.
Santa Fe, New Mexico is a trove of amazing foods and restaurants, and La Choza’s sister restaurant, the Shed in downtown Santa Fe, has become a tourist favorite, and for good reason; however, a trip to Santa Fe cannot be complete without experiencing a meal at La Choza—the restaurant is the soul of the city.
